Overview

This section will describe about our proposed design and implementation overview for defense segment. We have taken following scenario in our proposed design Following are the main steps involved in this system operation. All the RFID tags are scanned by the RFID reader. In backend transmitted data coming through antenna (RF-wave) are being recognized by RFID-based system PC. It acts as a middleware communication gateway among items, reader and system database. At the end it filters out and store data in RFID-databases for checking the data fault and relevant operation.

Functional overview

All the communication will be centralized with HQ. Long range communication is established by WiMax infrastructure and it will deliver data to nearest Wi-Fi hot spot. This Wi-Fi hotspot is responsible for establishing the communication to nodes which is available in it covering network. Data will be collected by various RFID reader deployed in nodes section and this data will be sent to HQ through Wi-Fi communication. To transfer bulk data from node, node will contact the Wi-Fi hotspot through the nearest Wi-Fi router which will deliver the data to HQ through WiMax. Using this infrastructure all the nodes connected through Wi-Fi for bulk data transfer, for example Tanks send the operation logs for a whole day. Need to send location information to HQ. Send authentication information from HQ to local server. Send inventory and ammunition storage information to HQ from local server.
To provide Authentication in remote location node will use the RFID tag authentication method. The Centralized reader will read the tag information to give authentication. The user information will be stored in local server for fast response. This user authentication in various locations is handled using SIP (session initiation protocol) mechanism. This will maintain the session started by user in one location and maintains the location of the person for feature reference. These RFID tags are unique to each person. Above diagram explains the complete system infrastructure how individual unit establishing the communication to base station. Each unit collects authentication information through RFID and establishing the Wi-Fi communication between the node and Wi-Fi hot spot.

Universal Readers

UR (Universal Reader) can be used in Base station to read all kind of nodes which will be communication through different medium. UR enabled with RFID, ZigBee and Wi-Fi communication channel. It can be used as universal router to read data from different type of nodes. Following are the simple example how UR works in actual field. ZigBee is the best protocol to control over the sensors in long range so based on the requirement ZigBee sensors will be installed as we explained in intrusion detection section. RFID will be effective in check-in, check-out process and need to transfer minimum amount of data like type of vehicle, location, etc… Wi-Fi will be very much useful when system needs to transfer bulk data, for example T90 tanks needs to send the complete one day operational log to base station or complete status of once it reaches the workshop. Universal Reader can react based on the environment, reads the data from corresponding signal and sends it to base station. It has following feature. Supports active, passive and semi-passive tags of all frequencies. Advanced anti-collision protocol support enables to work in densely populated RFID reader network. Reconfigurable readout distance spanning from few meters to Kms. Locator support provided. Indoor and outdoor location positioning support and tagged object monitoring through NMS/EMS software support. Embedded sensor data on RFID tags enable sensors parameters monitoring and control.GPS#Galelio interface options available. 3G-RFID tag support and reader configurability option provided in the reader. Can work in highly attenuating environment with power harvesting mode.

Software Overview

Following protocol components are used for the system. ZigBee – Mainly used for Sensor networking. It is capable of transfer 250Kbs per second. It can be used in low power condition and needs coordinator to receive data in other side. Wi-Fi – Can be used for small distance communication. It can be used for large data transfer and power consumption is low. This requires Wi-Fi router to receive data from different WiFi node. This will enable IPV6 communication between Wi-Fi nodes to base location. WiMax – This can be used for long range communication. This will collect the data from nearest Wi-Fi routers by enabling IPV6 protocol. This system consumes large installation place and power to operate. RFID Reader- This component used to reads active and passive tags which is present in its area and enables the IPV6 communication to Wi-Fi router.
